You Are the Butter to My Bread and the Breath to My Life

These are the words from Julia Child's husband - isn't it beautiful?
.
I just finished watching the movie Julie & Julia. This movie is based on a book written by Julie Powell. Here's the synopsis of the movie:
.
In 1949, Julia Child (Meryl Streep) is in Paris, the wife of a diplomat, wondering how to spend her days. She tries hat making, bridge, and then cooking lessons at Cordon Bleu. There she discovers her passion. In 2002, Julie Powell (Amy Adams), about to turn 30 and underemployed with an unpublished novel, decides to cook her way through "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in a year and to blog about it. We go back and forth between these stories of two women learning to cook and finding success. Sympathetic, loving husbands support them both, and friendships, too, add zest.
.
I watched it in English (thank God) and I loved it. The French accent of some of the characters was so funny and so... real!!! Meryl Streep has that annoying high-pitch voice and I thought she was pretending to have such a voice, but I discovered the real Julia Child on YouTube right after watching the movie. Here's an extract of her show - making an omelet.

So... what do you think about that voice? I found it irritating at the beginning, but I got used to it.
.
I always loved Meryl Streep - Sophie's Choice, Out of Africa, The River Wild and my favourite one: The Devil Wears Prada. She's an awesome actress. You'll notice that in Julie & Julia, she is a little snotty, but the more you get to know her, the more you'll find her spontaneous and funny.
.
I really like the parallel with Julie Powell -a young 30-year old woman who just loves to cook and decides to go through Julia Child's cookbook in a year. Her husband gives her the idea to write a blog about it. This whole thing is based on a true story. I actually found Julie's blog : The Julie/Julia Project. I read some pages and it's frankly interesting. I'm not a cook, but she doesn't only write about the recipes. She also comments on the things she went through during her day and also the joy and the troubles she went through while she was cooking. So, it's quite amusing.
.
Here's a picture of Julie as a Lobster Killer! This is an hilarious scene.
.
I really recommend this movie - especially if you like to cook. This movie will probably make you want to cook, cook and cook!!! I'm absolutely not a cook, but I really enjoyed the cooking sessions of this movie!
.
Rating: 8.5/10
